What do you mean STARTING OUT IN THE EVENING was too small of a movie to merit any awards? Frozen River is not a big movie. The Visitor is not a big movie either. I think some movies are lucky to be considered by any reason possible, and others just miss the chance. It's more a production thing, and perfect timing, in a world filled with FLAVORS OF THE MONTH.

I think its funny how Langella keeps talking about how it was so hard for him to embody the role (he played it on Broadway many times). I think the movie is good but it has no real chance of winning any major awards except for acting. They should have nominated Langella in "Starting Out in the Evening", but it was too small of a movie to merit any serious consideration.

This guy was soooo good. My mouth was open the whole time watching his performance. The audience at the theaters applauded afterwards and I heard his name out of every other audience member about how good he was. Langella should be this years oscar winner. I am shocked that he hasnt won any of the other awards yet, SAG, Golden Globes, Critics Choice...SHOCKED

Has anybody noticed that most of the movies nominated for best picture have no audience and no box office receipts. But they all have a political lean. So the leason is - write a script that is a bland collection of leftist cliche's with ernest and mostly stuffy self rightous actors who live to lead America to the promised land - and you too can win and Oscar.
