In this groundbreaking rags-to-riches fantasy, 18-year-old orphan Jamal Malik stuns the audience of India's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"-style game show by answering every question correctly. The show has to take a break from shooting before it reaches the final 20-million-rupee question, and in the meantime, Jamal finds himself under arrest. How could an unschooled street rat know so much without cheating? The police demand to know, but the answer to that question is neither simple nor multiple-choice.

Slumdog Millionaire is THEE most overrated film I've ever seen. Seriously, and does the race of the cast matter? Perhaps, but ask yourself if this was a black kid from the hood would this movie have even gotten any attention? Benjamin Button deserved it. MILK was better than this and The Dark Knight had the Best Sound overall in ALL categories, it was extremely powerful in it's presence. DO OVERS!

and, Arvind..re: sucking it up- American's don't HATE anybody that isn't crammed down our throat- (or up our you-know-what).. your economics is based on employees who get their visas because they will work for piss poor wages that were barely supporting 4, 5, maybe 6 men in a small apartment. now, the guy who grew up here is trying to raise his family, but gets replaced by h1b's or affirm.action

So- the trend with movies winning American awards is now based on the cultural % of immigration into the US??? The newest "in" culture is from India, I guess-

The money made a lot of money! What did the actors get nothing still living in the poor slums. I sure hope they were paid enough money to help their families.

I think that 8 awards are less for this movie. Dev Patel was awesome in this movie. But i don't think that it is true that a child would jump in a pile of s!@#.
