Just Look What It Did for Three 6 Mafia (Live Blogging #23)

Posted Sun, Feb 24, 2008, 8:01 PM

A shocker, I have to say.  The Best Song for "Falling Slowly" from "Once."  There are probably mathematical reasons, like the three songs from "Enchanted" splitting the vote, or the amount of drugs you had to be on to have gone to and enjoyed "August Rush."

And/Or, perhaps, "Once" touched the people who actually saw the movie, heard its songs, and felt the impact of both.

Just a thought.

And now, I have to recover from the emotional roller coaster I've been on in the last 120 seconds: the shock of the announcement, the touching speech, laughing at Jon Stewart's "they are so arrogant" joke, and then seeing a promo for Diddy in "A Raisin in the Sun."

I have been through a lot tonight.  Where's MY trophy?

Ooh... and now Jon Stewart is bringing out the lady who got cut off from giving HER speech for the Best Song award to make her speech on TV.  That, my friends, is classy.

  • Three cheers to Stewart for getting the second writer back on stage. He's doing much better this year!

  • Bringing back Marketa Irglova to give her speech will go down in Oscar history as one of the classiest, best feel-good moments ever! I loved the song and the performance and was pulling for them to win. In contrast, I thought the other songs were dreadful, especially that "Happy Working" number. Glen Hansard and Irglova were mesmerizing in their performance and in their speeches!
