Bye, Hopes (Live Blogging #13)

Posted Sun, Feb 24, 2008, 6:18 PM

Well, "Norbit" didn't win for makeup ("La Vie En Rose," which actually deserved it, did). Couple that with the loss of my precious "Persepolis" and my list of hopes (see Live Blogging #8) coming true is dwindling.

But my spriits are lifted with the arrival of the luminous Amy Adams and her performance of the "Happy Working Song."  Not only is she lovely and delightful, but the song itself is timely (Hey! I am working! Why not do it happily!?).

It also reminds me how puzzled I am that she did not receive a nomination for Best Actress. She gave that movie its spark and soul and would not be out of place amongst the other women in the category.  Come to think of it, I think "Enchanted" would make a fine substitute for "Juno" in the Best Picture category.  But don't tell anybody.  They might think I'm strange.

  • Yeah... poor Jon. the writers should go back on strike. He'd fair much, much better with his own material.

  • Speaking of bombing... my picks so far. Thank goodness for animation, make-up and Bardem.

  • I'm so sorry that Hollywood is sold out to the young and beautiful. Hal Hobrook is an example of an enduring spirit as compared to the "flash in the pan" you gave the Oscar to tonight,I don't know his name. Shame on you! Trying to keep the faith, Nancy Howlett

  • "Flash in the pan"? No way! Javier Bardem has shown over a series of great roles that he is on of the finest actors of our day. I suggest a viewing of "The Sea Inside". And really? The role of Anton Chigur would have been nearly impossible for most (even the best) actors. So well done, and a well deserved trophy.

  • Was that better than the Enchanted tunes? I don't think so, but you need to do what you need to do, to keep the dollars flowing. The common people
