You're Invited to What's Wrong With Hollywood (Live Blogging #9)

It started with a computer-animated sequence that took our favorite movie stars out of context and digitally placed them in a contemporary setting that many of them never would have agreed to (or perhaps you think Alfred Hitchcock wanted Cary Grant to be seen running from a Decepticon instead of a cropduster?).
Then, we were "invited" to the big show. Great!
But first... ads! It's just like going to the movies.
And finally, just to double-check that families are gathered around their TVs at 8:30 on a Sunday night, the host opens with a sex joke.
I know many people will like this, and there are parts of me that do find elements of this entertaining. But I also know that I am a single man in my thirties who spends most of my time in Los Angeles and New York. Most of the rest of the country does not fit that description. I'm just sayin', Hollywood.
Let's go on with the show.

It was pretty evident that the writers didn't work during the strike. Again, solidarity.

Why do they only have three nominees for animated feature and visual effects? Do they have a negative bias against technology? Yay for "Golden Compass" anyway. Sorry about "Persepolis". I think not enough people saw it.

"Once" was an amazing movie and they deserved best song and was one of the best moments of the night. But to nominate a bunch of simplistic disney showtunes was horrible. Come on! The breadth of music across hundreds of movies, and to bore the audience with these? It sounded like the Tony awards. Please do better next year, Oscar.

Hal Holbrook not winning for his brilliant performance in Into the Wild and the woman who played the boozing loser in Gone Baby Gone, losing, are pointed evidence of what we knew along: the voters don't actually go to the movies! If they did, there is no explanation as to why these two weren't the two best supporting winners.

What is it with people that even care about hollywood scum? Picture this a plumbers award were plumbers give out the golden plunger award and then praise each other on how great they are. Its absurd its THERE JOB. But yet millions of people watch as hollywood all stand and praise each other on how great they are. ( its not enough to make millions at THERE JOBS ) they then thank all the little people I will never get it?
