According to the Academy's press release, the announcements are being made in front of over 400 international media representatives.  Apparently Tiger Beat is one of them, because someone keeps whooping out like a teenager whenever a movie they like is mentioned, or a photo of a dreamboat appears on screen.  Persepolis... Woo!!

Speaking of photos, here's what I just learned... All Outstanding Director nominees are only photographed looking to the side.  Maybe it's a serious condition that results from squinting and looking into a movie camera.  Won't you give generously?

Also, apparently there are no existing photographs of screenwriters.  What gives?  Is this a snub of writers because of their strike, or have they always just been identified by name only?

I mean, aren't you just dying to know what Jan Pinkava and Jim Capobianco look like?
