  • The Ultimate Best Picture - Round 3

posted by Jonathan Crow - Wed Feb 11 2009, 8:26 AM PST 222 comments

With Round Two finished, there are now only four contenders still standing for the title of "Ultimate Best Picture." "Schindler's List" crushed "The Sound of Music," while "The Lord of the Rings" barely bested "Forrest Gump." The two "Godfather" flicks round out the final four.

For Round Three, it's the Corleone clan facing off against Steven Spielberg's monochrome masterpiece and it's "The Godfather, Part II" battling against Peter Jackson's sprawling epic. Who will win? You decide. The polls close on Friday the 13th.

I kept reading and answered my own question. They got ripped at the oscars, so they don't get in here either. I'm done with this.

I missed the first couple of rounds, so I didn't see what happened to STAR WARS and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, which I can only assume are the reasons film was created in the first place. They needed years of practice to finally hit that glowing moment in the late '70s- early '80's.

That's the point. Schindler's List was a movie to make you think. The dark and depressing feeling was necessary.

Schindler's List was a great movie, but far too depressing, sad, and dark. The acting was superb but the over all feeling after watching it was awful.

The DVD copies of the LOTR trilogy are the only movies I can watch over and over and always see something new. They are a triumph in filmmaking, the attention to detail. No other film I have seen including all the contenders here can match it. And I am no sci-fi geek. If not for the LOTR, I would have chose Gump.

Return of the King is on here because it's still fresh in a lot of people's minds, and many people haven't seen the older, better movies. LOTR are really good movies, but not great. I would put Shawshank Redemption, Casablance, Roman Holiday, "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly," American History X, Citizen Kane, and some old Japanese movies (Roshoman, Hidden Fortress, etc.) on here befo

First of all, the holocaust happened and the few out there who think otherwise (by think I mean refuse to believe) need to pull their heads out of their a$$e$. Second, to David who called the guy an idiot, it's propaganda spread by a small number of conservatives, not liberals, making it "conservative propaganda." You should pull your head out of your a$$ too. Mel Gibson+his dad=conser
