Evan Rachel Wood at the 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles - 01/25/2009 Jason Merritt, Getty Images Earlier this week, the tabloids were ablaze with reports that 56-year-old Mickey Rourke and 21-year-old Evan Rachel Wood, who play father and daughter in "The Wrestler," were spotted making out during the Grey Goose Official SAG Awards after-party. It was the sort of news report that made people across the country utter a collective, "Ick." Apparently, Wood was none too happy with the gossip, either. This morning she issued a sharply worded statement to Rolling Stone.
"I'm upset because I feel disrespected by the press and by Mr. Rourke," she said. "Just because I'm single doesn't mean that you can take advantage of me. It's unfair that the performances might suffer because of all of these distractions."
More to the point, she tried to put those Rourke-smooching rumors to rest: "I'm not attracted to him, he's too old for me. Nothing ever happened and nothing ever will."
Ouch. Of course, just this past November Evan Rachel Wood ended her relationship with goth rocker Marilyn Manson, who is only nineteen years her senior. Two decades seems to be her cut-off point. A girl has to have her standards.
So is this a case of protesting too much or is she telling the truth? Or is it nobody's business but hers? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
