Philip Seymour Hoffman must have been having a really bad hair day when he rocked this knit cap at the Oscars. Steve Granitz/WireImage.com Philip Seymour Hoffman made an interesting fashion statement when he donned a knit black cap to the Academy Awards. Sure, it's February, but it was actually 75 degrees in LA on the day of the Oscars, so what gives?
Penelope Cruz strikes a pose in vintage Balmain. Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images When Penelope Cruz found out she was nominated for an Oscar, she immediately knew what she wanted to wear to the awards show: a 60-year-old vintage gown by French designer Pierre Balmain. The actress apparently came across the strapless dress eight years ago and swore that she would don it one day. Fortunately, she was able to track the stunning gown down, which she paired with sparkling Chopard jewels, for her big night.
Everybody wants a piece of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie when they walk the red carpet. Steve Granitz/WireImage.com I wasn't sure what to expect from this year's Oscar red carpet. To be honest, I wasn't even sure I wanted to tune in considering the economic turmoil our country is in. Did I really want to watch the stars strut around in expensive gowns and borrowed bling when people are losing their jobs and their homes? Turns out I did, but unfortunately the red carpet coverage was kind of a bore.
As the stars are busily getting waxed and coiffed for this Sunday's Academy Awards Ceremony, thousands of people across the country are faced with the same problem: who the heck do they vote for in their Oscar pool? The choices can be overwhelming. I don't claim to have any insider knowledge at Price Waterhouse, but the Academy, as a body, tends to vote in patterns. And knowing those patterns can give you a leg up over your friends, enemies, and co-workers in picking who wins Oscar gold.
Long-time creative collaborators Bill Condon and Laurence Mark -- who most recently teamed up to co-produce "Dreamgirls," a former Academy favorite in its own right -- were hired this year as first-time Oscar show producers. Yahoo! Movies was offered the opportunity to sit down to interview them (unfortunately at the last moment Bill Condon became indisposed), so I sat down to pry for secrets and see what they have in store for this year's TV audience.
